Winning hands.
In low limit hold'em you need the best hand to win. So how often will you have the best hand? Say you play 20 hands per 100.

Re: Winning hands.
Actually in almost every form of poker I am aware of you need the best hand to win. Games have different definitions on what is a 'hand' or what is 'best', but they pretty much all agree on 'best hand' wins. Of course, there is high/low split, where the best high hand splits with the best low hand, so I guess sometimes the best hand gets half.
If you play 20% of the flops, you probably win around 6% to 9% of the hands. |

Re: Winning hands.
What I meant was in lower limits you need to show down the best 5 cards. There is almost no bluffing to win. So I was wondering how often you hold a hand and see it until the river it will actually be best.

Re: Winning hands.
Playing correctly, winning 8% of your hands would be a good number to shoot for.

Re: Winning hands.
If you win 7-8% of your hands you should be doing pretty well in a full game.

Re: Winning hands.
8% sounds about right.
In low limit, because trickery, bluffing, semi-bluffing, add all the rest pretty much don't work, you make money with a fairly simple formula. Play fewer hands with better odds than anyone else at the table. How does this work? Well, let's just look at one sub-class of hands, pocket pairs. Let's say that the average person at the table is playing AA-77. Now, if you only play AA-JJ you will play only half as many hands as the average person on the table, but you'll be more likely to win against them because they will be playing several hands (namely TT-77) that you will win whenever the flop misses you both. The same reasoning works with all the rest of the card combinations. You have to play enough to beat the rake and blinds, but if you're playing 12-15% of your hands, and win 3/4s of the time with those, you should do that just fine. |

Re: Winning hands.
So at these lower limits what range of hands would you play? AA-JJ and what else? Do you play the suited connecters? How often if you do?

Re: Winning hands.
AA-JJ, Q5 spades, and nothing else.
