Re: AA play.
Seems routine to me.

Re: AA play.
Pretty standard looking play. Looks a lot like he hit something on the river--if he did maybe he has 9-10 or 7-8...maybe a set of eights. Strange bluff otherwise. But you definitely can't fold here--and I wouldn't pop it up again either.

Re: AA play.
He could be chasing OESD or flush on flop, and then slow playing the straight he made on the turn, or a set of 8's.
Either way it's worth calling the river raise. |

Re: AA play.
I just needed a little therapy on this one. I hate losing A's like this! (nice looking board all the way, a couple passive callers)
I needed to hear I did the right thing a few times. LOL! I thought it was obvious I had lost on the river before I called that bet but knew I had to. (The reason being the river better must have known from my betting pattern that I'd call or raise, so therefore a bluff was highly unlikely and single pair of 8's would be ridiculous to bet at that point) He showed down a set of 8's.... |

Not necessarily
Lets explore this (speaking as someone who overplays AA a lot)
a) You know that you are probably beat; all you have is 1 pair. b) But based on the pot size its about a 10-1 shot when you call that last bet. If he raises with a pair or less its obviously a bluff. If he only has a Q he would have raised before now. So you are getting 10-1 odds to decide whether he is bluffing or not. Surely, if you knew that the player would never make such a bluff against you, its wrong to call? If you can discount them having AA, KK due to their pre-flop play? If however you know nothing about the player, you have to call because the chance they are bluffing 'feels more likely' than 10-1. And you don't want to encourage them to try bluffs, either. Still, I think I make these calls way more often than I should. |
