a hand that turned ugly
Loose, sometimes aggressive, 4/8 kill game in B&M.
I have 3d3c and limp in LP after other limpers. CO calls, SB completes, BB checks. Flop: Q75 rainbow. Checked around. Turn: 3h. Checked to an apparent beginner in EP who bets. I raise, EP reraises. Hmmmm, he'd been playing some strange cards so I put him on a straight. I really couldn't think of any reason he would reraise other than that. River: 5. Now I'm happy. EP checks. I bet. EP comments, "I have to call". I turn over my 3's full. EP has QQ of all things. Fun that. -bdy |

Re: a hand that turned ugly
Played well... 3-bet on turn sounds like straight, 2-pr, or a set. I would have put him on 77, 55 or Q7 (if fairly loose beginner).
I would have played it the same. |

"I have to call", he says.
That makes me chuckle. |

Re: a hand that turned ugly
I have experienced this myself in B&M 2/4 games. No betting on flop, some on turn, or have even had them wait until river...then WHAM! Beat me beside the head w/nut flush they had on the flop.
Okay...maybe was stupid on my part going against the pat/draw flush, but I saw so little action that I 'thought' I was safe. Ugh! Bottom line is that some play sneaky. After all, he got a fair amount of extra money, eh? Thanks for the good post. |

an apparent beginner [/ QUOTE ] I played in a number of home games growing up where slow playing was king. Usually pot limit games. I see a lot of beginner players in B&M who play in this fashion, just not understanding the nuances of limit hold'em. Adjusting to this is difficult eh? Thanks. I am going to put that line in my arsenal. "I have to call." I think I will use it after someone caps the bet. |

Re: a hand that turned ugly
Villain in this hand was not slow playing, he just doesnt really know what the hell he is doing in general.
Slow players and idiots are two very different kind of players. Note: It's possible to be both, but not in this case I assure you. |

It had also occured to me that he had a bigger set and had been attempting to CR the flop. But on the river, when he check-called and made his comment about having to call, I was all ready to scoop in the chips. I never dreamed I was about to be shown Q's full!! The worst thing about the session is that this was my last hand of the night since my ride had to leave...it was such a good table.. bdy |

Re: a hand that turned ugly
I'm just trying to learn,
How would you play the QQ instead? Consistent raises/re-raises all the way? |

Re: a hand that turned ugly
oh well, once you fill up on the river...fold. someone probably has quads and wasting bets is not good poker.
follow this mantra: if the nuts i do not hold, then i must certainly fold. |
