Default O\'Reilly on the Swift Boat Vets

Bill O'Reilly weighs in on the Kerry/Vietnam bashing:

Flame on, guys. Just starting the thread. I'll sit back and let the partisans go to town. Curious how an article defending Kerry by O'Reilly will be played on 2+2. I have an idea.

From the article:

[ QUOTE ]
It is very possible to perform heroically on some occasions and do less than admirable things on others. All human beings are flawed, and we are capable of both valor and deceit. That's what I think happened here. John Kerry was brave but he was also calculating. His heroism impressed most of his Swift boat mates, but his civilian anti-war activities and perceived grandstanding also alienated many other Vietnam vets. And so the battle lines are drawn.

[/ QUOTE ]

Sounds like a reasonable assessment of the current battle about all this.

Kerry is a Shyster - just like O'Reilly. Thus, they understand one another perfectly.

I am just curious how the people who say O'Reilly is a a uber-right winger feel about this. I personally don't think he is, and FWIW I think he makes several good points in the brief article.

(OPINION ALERT) People who label O'Reilly as a "right-winger" strike me as folks who aren't really paying attention to him - merely repeating what they hear on the radio or read on the internet, etc. If you watch his show or listen to him on the radio for any length of time, it would be hard for you to argue this position...unless you view all non-socialists as "right-wing". I think his position as critical of taxes and government spending automatically excludes him from the left, yet he doesn't fit on the right.

He's truly a loudmouth iconoclast that pisses off both sides.

Well speaking as someone who is pretty much an uber-right winger, I think O'reilly is a complete boob.

Well not sure what i did elicit that comment but on to the article. I do appreciate O'reilly's attempts to be rational in this issue. The bottom line though is that Kerry is the one that continually cites his record as vet as a reason he is qualified to be president. I just find it hard to believe that over 200 people would get together to tell lies about someone in a national forum. And it does matter because if he has consistently misrepresented himself and his actions, well that matters.

Couldn't have said it better myself, though my target might be different than yours.

[/ QUOTE ] You are indeed naive than to the ways of Washington. The only peoples whose word matters on this issue are the people who were actually on HIS boat.
