Default Playing the player - two hands

These hands occurred one after the other. I'm including the first as it influenced my choice of play in the second. As always, all comments gratefully received, but I'm particularly interested if people think the first hand has any bearing on how the second should have been played.

"Player" was loose preflop, but not outrageously so, and I'd already noted that he could respect counter-aggression.

Hero checks, BB checks, MP2 checks, Player bets, Hero raises, BB folds, MP2 folds, Player calls.

MP2 was pretty solid, not one to cold call. BB not so solid but no gambler, not likely to stand a raise without a made hand. I thought it was unlikly either of these guys hit anything with this flop. If either of them had called I was slowing right down (fearing a pocket pair). If I'd been reraised here, I'm folding.

Turn: (6 BB) 5[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 players)
Hero bets, Player calls.

River: (8 BB) 2[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 players)
Hero bets

Was this an obvious river bet irrespective of the previous hand? Am I over-analysing? I bet the river thinking my opponent probably had AK, AQ or (less likely) a small/mid pocket pair, and given the previous play would fold them to my river bet. Of course he could have had a fair number of hands over which I'm good too.

hand 1 fine.

hand 2, remember, the player may well call you with any pocket pair thinking you're jamming with AK; i wouldn't be surprised to see Player's 77 take it down here.

good to see an astute player realise it's important to know who you're up against.

I'd fold preflop in hand 2.

Why was it one of the nots? If you're ever not folding this it should be player and table-read dependent, not based on your horoscope or the flavor of beans.

Newbie here (playing about 9 months). Why would you fold in that spot? Because CO raised? Also, how come this site won't show my signature? I typed it in in my profile page, and there's a checkbox below where I'm typing this that even asks if I want to add my signature to this post and it doesn't work..

Sigs are disabled.

And yeah, unless I knew CO was likely to be raising light, I just wouldn't care to get involved in a pot out of position with a potentially dominated hand. If I was going to play, I would 3-bet.

I concede. I should have 3-bet preflop if I was going to play this at all. And for the record, us Scorpios don't believe in all that horoscope cr*p.

Why not raise the flop in hand 1?
