54o... would you complete here?
Paradise $15 Limit Tournament
Blinds are 100/200 I have 54o in the sb. There are 4 limpers and the BB left. Would you complete with this hand here? I was thinking there was already a lot in the pot(around 1300) so this would justify a call correct? |

Re: 54o... would you complete here?
what is your stack size, can you afford to pay another 100 on a hand that needs 2 pair, trips or straight to take the money? it's a limit tourney, which i also don't play.
I'd be inclined to fold with under 2000 chips, complete with more and hope. 54o is a really crap hand... Regards, Pete Harris |

Re: 54o... would you complete here?
Generally yes, but it depends on stack size. If I had more than 1300 or so after posting, then I would put in the extra 100 because of the implied odds. If my stack (after posting) was in the range 250-1300 then I fold 54o here in the small blind, because I don't have enough chips to get paid off on the river if I make my hand. If I had exactly 100 chips left after posting then I would put it all in here preflop. Not sure what I would do if my remaining stack was exactly 200 after posting.

I believe at this point I had something like 3000 maybe 2800.
I did end up calling. I won the hand, but was still unsure if I should have been in the hand in the first place. I flopped a straight. |

Re: 54o... would you complete here?
This is an almost automatic call with almost any stack size. You simply aren't that far behind the other players, given the pot odds you're getting here. The only downside to calling here is if you're going to make bad decisions postflop.

Re: 54o... would you complete here?
Complete here - but be careful what you play for.
As you mentioned - you flopped the straight, which is exactly why you play this hand in the SB in an unraised pot. Just make sure next time you don't see a hand of K105. and think you should bet cause you have a piece of it. I'm not playing a hand like this post flop unless I hit 2 pair, trips, or straight. If cards were a bit higher - like 9, 10 I'd also play OESD where I had overs. |

Re: 54o... would you complete here?
at what odds does calling in the big blind regardless of stack size become automatic?

Re: 54o... would you complete here?
If you have the chips this is a good spot to bet about 1200. The first limper is generally the only one that concerns you, the rest generally want to see a cheap flop and will fold to a serious raise. This is typically a very good spot to pick up chips, and the raise is much higher EV than the limp I think. If the blind to stack ratio was smaller, then I think limping is higher ev.

Re: 54o... would you complete here?
You would bet half your stack with 45o from first position in a pot with what looks to me as 5 limpers? Its a paradise $15 limit tournament (so you cant raise that much anyway, but beside that point that) someone is gonna call if not push/raise. I'm all for stealing, but that seems very risky to me. Are you going to fold off half your stack to a reraise?

Re: 54o... would you complete here?
It's a moot point because, as you said, this is limit.
