Help with AK
PokerStars 0.25/0.50 Hold'em (8 handed)
Preflop: Hero is MP1 with K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. UTG calls, UTG+1 calls, Hero raises, MP2 folds, dilligaf21 folds, CO folds, Button folds, SB calls, BB folds, UTG calls, UTG+1 calls. Flop: (9 SB) 5[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], T[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], Q[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (3 players) SB checks, UTG checks, UTG+1 checks, Hero bets, SB calls, UTG calls, UTG+1 calls. Turn: (6.50 BB) 2[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (3 players) SB checks, UTG checks, UTG+1 checks, Hero bets, SB calls $0.25 (All-In), UTG calls, UTG+1 folds. River: (9 BB) 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players, 1 all-in) UTG checks, Hero checks. Final Pot: 9 BB Results in white below: UTG shows Th Ah (one pair, tens). Hero shows Kh As (high card, ace). SB shows 7d 9d (high card, queen). Outcome: UTG wins 9 BB. My main question is should I have bet the river with only ace high? I didn't think it was worth it because at best I would only have taken down the side pot, and in restrospect, I probably would have been called there. |

Re: Help with AK
Take your free card on the turn. This is one of those times where a great starting hand doesn't pan out. I may put another bet in on the river to see if you can't take it down having played it the way you do, but I prefer the free card =/

Re: Help with AK
Welcome to the forum.
You were called by 2 other players on the flop. Nobody dropped out to your turn bet. Your hand did not improve. I wouldn't bet the river. |

Re: Help with AK
You are right, at these limits it's practically no-fold'em hold'em. I should just wait til I actually hit a hand then make it pay off. Thanks for the incite.

Thanks for the insite [/ QUOTE ] I don't usually make fun of others' typos (I'm a reporter and I've made enough published mistakes to understand sh*t happens), but this one was one of the funniest I've seen. |

Re: Help with AK
Your just gonna have to forgive me. I recently had surgery and can barely recognize myself in the mirror with all the painkillers they have me on. Although, it is rather comical.
A fine welcome to the forum it has been. |

Re: Help with AK
Check the turn.
This is a classic "check with outs" type of situations. You potentially have ten winners and definitely have 4 winners check and hope that if you miss the river get cehcekd through and you get a free showdown. |

Bison we need your skills.
My skills at making fun of bad ideas or something to do with the converter? I'm gonna assume you're after option A. HAY GUYS: When deciding whether to bet the turn in last position with overcards and just a gutshot draw, you need to ask yourself a couple of questions: 1) WHAT THE HELL AM I HOPING TO ACCOMPLISH HERE? 1a) Am I likely to be ahead here? 1b) Will a better hand fold? 1c) Will a worse hand call? 1d) Are my overcard outs weak draws or strong draws or hopeless piles of fecal discharge? 1e) Are there enough likely callers to give me value for betting my draws? 1f) If I bet and am check-raised, how much bitter regret do I expect to taste in the back of my mouth? 1g) How much more fulfilling would my life be if I just took the free card here, even if it's going to signal to people who automatically put me on overcards anyway that they in fact have better hands than me which they do? 2. WHY DON'T I KNOW BISONBISON? or 3. WHY DOESN'T HE LIKE ME MORE? |

Re: Help with AK
I'm starting to hate AK. How many callers do you really need to make this hand profitable? It rarely wins for me, and when it does it's so obvious that no one will bet (i.e. flop TJQr). It's a definitely loser for me so far, usually to two-pair or flushes.
I know it's a hand you're "supposed" to raise, but every time I see it usually just feel sick. Perversely, I have much better results with AJs and AQ |
