Default Dell Laptop Advice (OT)

I'm planning on calling dell to place my order today. I've narrowed my selection down to the Inspiron 8600. I just can't decide on which display to get WSXGA+ or WUXGA.

WSXGA+ has a 1680x1050 resolution and is $100 more.
WUXGA has a 1920x1200 resolution and is $200 more.

My only concern is that 1920x1200 will be too high a resolution and hard to read.

I'm not going with the standard WXGA cause I cannot fit 4 tables on that without overlap.

Any advice?

Thanks!

I have the WUXGA on my laptop and you can easily fit on 4 tables of most sites and have it readable. I use mine midweek as work away from home and its nowhere near as good a my 21" flatscreen at home it is fine. Its small but not that small, Stars is probably the hardest to read but Party is ok.

Which video card did you get? They offer a 32MB (standard) as well as a 64MB (+$53) and a 128MB (+$143). Any thoughts?

For the Inspiron 8600, the standard video card is: 64MB NVIDIAŽ GeForceTM FX Go5200 Go

I plan to upgrade to: 128MB ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9600 PRO for $150 more (Canadian dollars).

I know i can easily fit 4 tables on both the WSXGA+ and the WUXGA. I just don't know if WUXGA will be too small.

Do you have any problems reading text when on the 2+2 forums with WUXGA?

I have SXGA+ and there is a little vertical overlap. Its not too bad but not perfect either. That being you can play 4 games comfortably.

I love this laptop and just ordered one for mom

I got the 128 one as I also play Call of Duty and other things sometimes, is perfect for stuff like that as well as dvd's in widescreen etc. I would suspect that the 64k would be fine if more for poker only.

It is quite a heavy laptop is the one down side I would say but I am happy with it.

There is no vertical overlap at all on the one I have.

Well I went ahead and bought it tonight with WSXGA+. Also got them to throw in a free 64MB USB Key. Always tell them you will give them the sale right there if they give you something free (be specific about what you want). Works every time =)
