Re: Moving up to $1/2
If you're a successful player at .5/1, you WILL be a successful player at 1/2. The players aren't that much better, and the pot sizes really are. I find that if I play well for an entire night, the BB/100 are just as good as they are at .5/1. I too was hesitant to leave the friendly confines of .5/1 - I was making about $10.50 an hour on average, which is more than I've made at any job I've held - but I decided that since I'm not playing for a living, I might as well get as good at the game as I can.
If you have the bankroll to sustain yourself, move up to 1/2 as soon as you can. I have always 4 tabled, so that wasn't an issue - but I think you should do however many tables you're comfortable with at 1/2 - you're missing out on $$$ otherwise. |

Re: Moving up to $1/2
I don't think it would be a big difference for me playing 4 tables instead of 3. The reason I only play 3 now is my computer is about 5 years old (500 Mhz/128 MB ram) and if I go to add a 4th table at Party my computer locks up. Therefore, I close everything else down and play 3 tables.
I just bought a new 19" monitor and I have a new printer so I basically only need a new motherboard. I've been looking on the Dell website of late and it looks like I can get a 2.8 GHz processor/60 GB hard drive/1024 MB Ram comp for about $800 after shipping. I think by the end of the year I'll make this investment and then will move up to $1/$2 not having to worry about my computer freezing up. Until then I think I'll continue to stay at $0.50/$1 while I improve my game. A couple months down the road when I get the new computer I think I'll feel a bit more comfortable moving up to $1/$2. Currently I've played about 12K hands of $0.50/$1 and about 1K hands of 0.25/0.50 (Paradise) and I'm at +6.67 BB/100. |

Re: Moving up to $1/2
It's a big pot
this is actually why knocking out people would be great. I think most of us can conclude that folding the flop is out of the question. So the question is, should we raise? A raise might buy us 3 more outs and a free card. I think I am raising it because the pot is already quite large. |

Re: Moving up to $1/2
Hey Rob,
Can you do me a favor and send some luck down this way? I'm down 40 BB in 2000 hands. :-P Darrel |

Re: Moving up to $1/2
That's better then how I started 1/2. -100BB after 3000 hands. Can become a bit unnerving moving up a limit, and sustaining a downswing.

Re: Moving up to $1/2
Congrats on your transition to 1/2. I've also had a little more trouble moving up, especially at Party:
All Sites: .50/1 23,546 hands at 4.93 bb/100 1/2 3,114 hands at 0.54 bb/100 Party Only: .50/1 12,531 hands at 5.43 bb/100 1/2 1,905 hands at -1.65 bb/100 My VP$IP, PFR, and AGG-TOT stats are very similar between the levels and sites, but the results haven't been. I hope ajax410 is right that the .5/1 winners WILL be 1/2 winners. |

Re: Moving up to $1/2
I've never played .50/1, only 1/2 and I've found pretty decent success after 25K+ hands or so after reading SSH and following the invaluable advice of those on this site. I'm guessing that the # to the flop is lower than in .50/1 so you'll probably find yourself folding some hands pre-flop that you may have limped in otherwise. The competition is still mediocre at best at this level.

Re: Moving up to $1/2
Congrats. I'll be looking to move to 1/2 at both Party and UB as soon as I have 300BB on each after I remove all the money I put into the sites. That's probably another week at Party and maybe 2 weeks at UB (have about the same profits at both, but play less at UB).
The thing I don't like about 1/2 at party is that a large percentage of the 1/2 games are 6 people max. I don't want to play short handed games like that I'm not used to it. |
