Default 2005 WSOP-- Revenge of the Pros??

I've been saying ever since I got to the Rio that I thought the pros would do very well this year. They're still better and I think they have adjusted to all the craziness of the new poker world. Plus a lot more dead money this year.

Well a Cunningham-Fischman-Ulliott final 3 may be porrof positive of that.

And how good is Scott Fischmann anyway-- 1st out of 831 last year, and 2nd out of 2035 this?? Wow. That's as good or better than what action Dan did in the ME in 2003-04.

He's not AS good as those numbers present...

I think he's pretty damn good though. I'd stake him, that's for sure. And I'm certainly not betting against him to win another bracelet this year.

If the rest of the fields are anything like the first ones I'd be happy to bet against him or anyone else.

Daniel N already mentioned in his blog that he thought if anyone made mosre than 3 final tables this year it might be the greatest accomplishment in poker history.

People who don't play in tournaments view of how pros see tournaments:

Lots of dead money, watch out for "land mines"

Pros in tournaments view of tournaments:

I'm not going to make dominated mistakes like amateurs will. However, my EV of profit in these smaller buy-in events is equal to the buyin at most.

The difference in skill between pros and good amateurs is not that huge. I have seen several well known pros cold calling and 3 betting with KQ against short stacks all in's several times. WHAT ARE YOU BEATING????? POCKET PAIR? NO. ACE-RAG? NO. STOP KQ MADNESS NOW.

I've had friends who are very good players do things online like finish 2nd twice in a row in a 2400 person tourney (Sunday Stars tourney) and win a 400 person tourney 3 times in a row (Paradise Sunday tourney, this same guy came in 2nd in a WPT). Fischman's results aren't out of line with the results any excellent player might be able to post.

When you are anxious about a hand online, only your mouse knows.
