i believe the equity you have with idiot cold-call player, as well as taking control of the pot makes this an easy 3-bet, especially given that BB will call half the time.

i have no problem giving up if i don't hit the board.

Firstly your equity is totally dependant on the hand (hence range) of UTG not the coldcaller, the coldcaller adds dead money but only (mostly) to the person winnin but the level equity he adds is nothing compared the level equity UTG controls. Badly worded, but meh.

Secondly, a very important factor in 3 betting should be how fast UTG folds the flop not how fast you can drop.

I call but i think i should be folding.

At 1/2 i'm 3 betting. Don't know about any other levels.
