Re: I hate Ipod and want something else for MP3\'s
Sorta off topic, but does anyone know how to take music off of an iPod?

Creative Zen Micro
I've got a Creative Zen Micro and it's great. If you want to take advantage of a windows media subcription service (like Napster or newcomer Yahoo which is $5 - 6/ month)then you have to get a compatible player (Ipods are NOT compatible). See www.playsforsure.com for info. BTW - subscription services are the future of downloadable music and Apple is stubbornly refusing to move in that direction, which is a terrible business decision.
If you want to see reviews by a guy who's looking for an ipod killer, I recommend reading this guy's blog: Digital Media on Omar's Blog In particular: Creative Zen Micro vs Ipod review Enjoy. |

Re: Creative Zen Micro
I have a Creative Nomad Zen Xtra. It's quite a bit bigger than the full size Ipod (especially thicker), but to me price was a definite consideration. I got a 60 GB model for $250, which is half of what Apple charges. The interface is pretty good and so
far I really like it. And it's so nice to be able to put every song you come across on it and still have room for plenty more. Re: Creative Zen Micro
No, by "downloadable" I mean "downloadable." Microsoft has developed a DRM scheme that lets you download files that you can play on your computer - online or offline - and transfer to compatible music players like the Creative Zen Micro. It's not streaming. When your subscription runs out the download stops playing. The only drawbacks - you can't burn the downloaded songs and you can't transfer to more than a few computers.

Re: I hate Ipod and want something else for MP3\'s
I picked up the Creative Zen Micro 5GB that is compatible with the Napster to Go service.
I'd recommend it highly. Great sound (I'd also recommend Sony headphones if you hate the earbud things like I do, you'll find review on cnet.com). And paying $15 a month to have the thing constantly loaded with 2000 songs kicks ass. FWIW.. Pack |

Re: I hate Ipod and want something else for MP3\'s
I highly recommended you check out Yahoo Music's new Unlimited subscription program. If you commit to a year it's a third of the price of Napster. I switched last month and the selection is just as good - there are some albums I couldn't get on Yahoo that were available on Napster, but the reverse was true as well.

Re: going with the Iriver H10
I'd go for Monolith MX-7050 (not a harddrive player)
Here are some images (Swedish review). The summary says: "Monolith MX-7050 is one of the best players on the market. The price is the same as similar high-end products - this is a player for those of you who want the best in audio quality. Positive: Appearance, high headphone volume, charged in less than 1h, clear display Negative: Relative high price, feels slightly plastic, usb 1.1, only 11hrs playtime --- This player does not feature a harddrive, rather it has a flash-card that holds 1GB at max. 68 x 36 x 17,2 mm and 50 grams is about half that of an iPod mini, both when it comes to size and weight. It's a balance where you have to chose between small size and weight at the sacrifice of storage space. If you change your mind and want a flash-card player this is the one to have. Also, the Monolith can play any kind of mp3s, not just legally downloaded ones. |
