[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] Kirk Gibson comes to mind, too. [/ QUOTE ] Preface: I am not sure about this ... its a long time ago. Yes, Gibson never played in an All Star game. However, in 1988, I think he either was voted in, or there was talk about him being a replacement for an injured player. Anyway, he made it clear that he was not going to go because he had plans to go home to Michigan. [/ QUOTE ] Yes, you are correct. |

Re: Best non all-star baseball player ever
Haha, I figured you might want to put too much effort into it. But just off the top of your head I'm sure you could come up with a couple. You don't need a Bill Jamesian analysis of all non all-star players in history in order to come up with a few names.

Re: Best non all-star baseball player ever
I was disapointed to see only Salmon, Karros & Gibson mentioned, although all good choices.
A couple other names to throw out: Tim Wakefield, JD Drew, Todd Zeile, Kirk Rueter, Shannon Stewart, Placido Polanco, Mike Timlin, Pedro Astacio |
