Default Re: Creative low-stakes move: the free card min-raise

I've been doing this a lot for the past month or so, for exactly the situations you describe, the flush draws on the flop and the marginal hands on the turn that you really want to see a showdown. It works extremely well if you pick your spots right.

Edit: it doesn't really depend on whether people think that the min raise = monster, it depends on you using it on people who aren't particularly aggressive. This play is useless if they reraise, but most people with a top pair type hand/some people with monsters will just call the min raise and will check to the raiser and expect you to bet the next street.

The best bit of about a min raise for a cheap showdown is that you have taken the initiative and set your own river price to be 1/3 pot (if he pot bet) and if he reraise you, then you can fold your marginal hand without too much thought. If you just call the pot bet, then you will almost certainly face another bet, which may or may not be too expensive for you.
