i posted it b/c miles didn't like my choice ... though it could have just been b/c he knew what he had [/ QUOTE ] I had QQ here and folded to his turn raise. I told him the raise sucked because I was either going to fold, 3-bet him, or call and check raise him on the river for fun. The thing about bluff raising this turn without the Ace is that you're risking 2 BB in hopes that I fold, when it is VERY likely that I have hit that ace (with AQs or AK). |

Re: AJo against milesdyson
as he suggested... i think i've been loosing money by raising people off hands that they'd continue with... i need to think about these raises that i make routinuely against fish that will call down when faced with thinking opponents

If I were the villian in the hand and I knew you were a 2+2er, I would call down the raise with a hand like KK or QQ KNOWING that you don't have an ace when you raise the turn. So against someone who expects you to call with an ace, it might actually be correct to raise with an ace. This is why poker is so complex and after you get to a certain level of thinking it becomes a game of "[censored] this guy, I'm just calling him down." Against a player who isn't thinking about what you think he is thinking, you should just call the turn though. Edit - It is very important that people understand this concept. If you have questions about why you should just call the turn, feel free to ask. |

Re: AJo against milesdyson
I've yet to see a fully understandable reason to call this turn. I'm sure it's right, but please elaborate. Thanks.

[/ QUOTE ] Because this happens - Miles says "I had QQ here and folded to his turn raise." So a raise loses you a BB you probably would've gained on the river. |

Re: AJo against milesdyson
a a pre-flop 3-bet from a good player (miles), over the top of a raise from another strong player (zero) usually means the 1st player (miles) has a premium pair (TT-AA) or AQs or AK.
when an A turns, if miles doesn't have an A (he has TT-KK) he's drawing to 2 outs (a set) against zero's pair of A's. however miles, whether he has an A or not, doesn't know what zero has and needs to bet out without fear. if zero raises the turned A, its easy for miles to get away from his hand if he doesn't have an A (& of course b/c the pot is small) if miles does have an A, it's AA, AK, AQ; all hands that beat zero's AJ; and miles 3-bets right back at zero. if zero called the turn, miles likely fires again on a non-A, non-K river and probably calls those river cards and zero wins 2 bb (vs the 1 when he raised the turn and miles folded) and possible 3 if zero raises a miles river bet and miles calls. |

[/ QUOTE ] shill, if you are miles and call a turn raise, how close are you to folding to a river bet if he passes on a free showdown? i'm still thinking in micro mode where "if you call the turn, you should call the river".. but it seems as you move up, there's more merit to folding to the final bullet.. if you can post a prototypical situation where this would be correct, i'd like to see it. original hand: yeah, pick up the one bet per street line. |
