Default Do you Scout tables before you Sit Down?

I play NL, and often times I'll scout the tables with the highest average pots looking for loose cannons before I decide to sit down and play. As hard as it is to sit down with them, because once you spot them it is often only a matter of minutes before they bust, it is definetly +EV to get a couple hands in with them if you can...and its nothin but a bonus if they decide to keep reloadin and try to win it back ...soooo, i guess the question is, do you guys, both NL and limit, scout tables before you sit?

I dont scout.

Too much time wasted. I sit down at the table with the highest avg pot. If its not a good game i leave after as long as it takes to tell its not a good game. Its like scouting but getting time at the table at the same time.

Its all about hourly rate, not bb/100.

I agree 100% why "scout" a table table that could turn to crap by time you post the BB, just sit down and use that as your scouting. I'm constitnely switching tables no way I could "scout" each one I sit down at.

I was looking to respond to a post in this thread. While your post was crude, it pretty well somes up my feelings on this matter. If your goal is to play poker and not work too hard and have a good time, maybe win a little every month, then just sit at some table and if it is too tight after a few rounds then move on. I say have a nice day.

If you are in it for the $$ and/or better your game then game/seat selection is a large part of the earn. I DM so much I don't wish to discuss it. I will not sit in a game unless there at least two players who are LAG or LC. I will rarely sit out of position either. I play four games and have at least four in the bullpen warming up. I scout the bullpen to replace games if they aren't good enough. You must drop games when they're no longer good. Every hand you play that is sub EV compared to a better spot is money lost. Even good players play in spots where, with the rake and other pros, they have -EV. At the end of the year the number of those hands can be a good percentage of total hands played. That's OK, since Party needs that rake.

Why other respected players/posters don't see this clearly makes me question their work ethic.

Less than two years ago I was playing $25 max buyin NLH.

I have read where PT and such are crutches which don't advance your natural game. bs I play several limits higher than I could otherwise. My play is much better over the last two years than all those before. I think PT and such let the serious user look into the "inner game" of poker.

I play absolute, and there are no tables to choose from.

lol, so why do you play there?

i hate playing there. tightest frickin players ever, especially the NL tables.

as is the general consensus, i go for the largest avg pot sizes, and move around accordingly. often times the avg pot size will drop dramatically after whatever fish just busted, so i check the lobby real frequently to make sure im on the best possible tables.

I should qualify my "yes." On any site but Party, I take a look around and try to find the best table possible. On Party, it's damn near impossible to catch the dancing tables in the lobby, so I usually just join the generic list and do a search for my favorite fish.
