Simple. Ask yourself if you want to play a big pot with just TPTK. Probably not even if you do think you are ahead. In addition a turn check may have +EV if villian decides to bluff at the river.

I think you get more calls from hands you beat on the turn than hands that bluff on the river if you check. So I would bet the turn and check behind on the river.

I fold the river when he does bet because I don't believe I'm winning more than 30% of the time.

I don't think that makes betting the turn wrong.

I probably wouldn't have bet quite as much on the flop, more like 2/3 pot, that would have kept the overall pot size a little smaller too.
