Default Re: impossible to beat cardroom 4/8 game?

Simple answer:

"House players" are usually employees sitting in on-the-clock to try and keep a game from breaking. They're NOT playing with house money, they're playing on their own dime. I work as a dealer, and this is part of my job, too. I am one of those dealers that doesn't lose money on this bargain (I strictly aim for "break-even" when I play as a shill -- no beating up on players, no stupid suckouts, just solid even-money play). However, the unfortunate reality is that many dealers are still just plain bad players, and they will play just as badly when shilling for the house as they do when off-the-clock. Adjust your play accordingly.

Quads, I'm a bit confused by your terminology. I'd always understood that a shill is someone who plays with house money, whereas a proposition player is someone paid by the house to generate action, but playing with her own money. Are you using the term shill differently?

I'm probably being too loose with my terminology, so I apologize for any confusion I may have caused.

Basically, I'm talking about prop play by dealers and floorpersons who are still on-the-clock, but who are playing with their own money in order to keep their own room's game's from getting too shorthanded and/or breaking.

this would be a dream-situation if true.

I doubt they're playing with house money...but that would only be a good thing if they were (anyone with an unlimited bankroll who plays crappy cards is welcome in my game at ANY time).

you need to read Small Stakes HoldEm by Ed miller and start really learning how to play the game (from your post it is obvious that you don't...I suspect you won't believe me...but it's true).

I also would be interested in learning where this game is.

What you describe as a game that you can't beat is actually a game that sounds incredibly beatable.

Brother, I feel your pain. I play in an even worse game at the local casino where players bluff almost 100% of the rivers and occasionally muck nut hands when they were just trying to pay for their dinner. Also, sometimes when they think I'm not looking, I catch them slipping extra $100 bills into my wallet.

They are driving me crazy! Can someone please come here and teach them how to play like experts so I can start beating this game again?

[ QUOTE ]
the house players seem to play with house money (unlimited BR) and call to showdown if they hold any 2 suited connectors, underpairs or 2nd and 3rd pair. i get out-drawn constantly despite defensive betting (my overpairs vs. flush/straight draws, and my overpairs vs. drawn sets).

any tips?

Tips? Yea, sit down and shut up...players playing badly with unlimited banks??? cmon, whats the problem? People who say they can't win because the "keep on getting drawn out on" simply can't win.

If you want to play in a game like this, go to any California card room. Every table is loaded with fish. Don't forget your tarter sauce.
