Default Re: PP\'s or suited connectors? Which do you choose?

pocket pairs. when you set, it's usually going to be the best hand, and even without a set there are a lot of times you'll still have the best hand because of an overpair. also, i'm not very strong playing a sc. i've deleted all under JTs from my game (except for late and not to a raise).

Pocket pairs thrive in games that are passive preflop and aggressive postflop. Suited connectors thrive in games that are passive preflop AND postflop. SC also require deeper stacks, since they are still paying to draw postflop in places where sets are already extracting value. With deep stacks SC also can be used much more effectively for semi-bluffing, whereas PP have very little value if they miss the flop.

Thanks for the replies guys. I was leaning towards PP, which I think over the long term is higher EV, but there was the lingering thought that SC were capable of more. And I am still not sure in more skilled games which I would prefer, since I have limited experience playing a table full of talented players. Hopefully someday I will be able to make a better decision for those types of situations. Hope this wasn't too boring or obvious of a question. I appreciate the replies.

Default LOL, I\'ll take 1/13th of all my hands being the preflop nuts please...

this is silly, PP's >>>>>>> SC's

think about it this way: in an adequately deep NL game, woul you ever open-fold a PP preflop? what about a SC?

Yeah, I understand that. Perhaps I should have limited it to 5-J hands of both types. Then it might be a very different discussion.

lets not forget that suitedness has pretty bad implied odds. once that 3rd flush card comes, action is killed. thats is, unless theyve got the nut flush.

Straights are goot, semi-bluffs are goot.

No kidding, when there are 3 of the same suits on the board people tend to slow down.
