"This is what I figured. You had some gambling troubles in your life and now you think that no one else is able to handle the responsibility to gamble before the government says they can."

Wrong. I was gambling stupidly and realized it. It never got me into trouble.

"Age, once older than 12, isn't entirely correlated with what you refer to as "emotional maturity." What about my being 19 makes me inherently less capable of emotionally dealing with gambling than someone less than 2 years older than me?"

Emotional maturity generally comes with life experience. True, some 19 year olds are far more mature than some 21 year olds. As far as when the government says you can gamble, there is a reason for that. You personally may be more responsible than some guys who are two years older than you are, but since the law cannot look at everyone on a case by case basis, a minimum age is set for certain activities below which participation is unacceptable.

"I spent most of the last month in casinos because I didn't have school. As for my post count, I don't know what to tell you but I don't see what is drastically wrong about that."

As long as you're performing to the best of your abilities at Stern and not wasting the enormous amount of money your parents (I would imagine) are laying out for your education then its fine.

"I do intend to finish my edcation. I will go get a job after that. I don't understand why I need to serve in the military--I'd rather not but I will if I have to."

Good. Glad to hear it. Please see an earlier reply of mine that clarifies what I meant when I mentioned military service.

"I think its very egotistical and immature to think that I have to "earn" the right to sit at "your" poker table, but what do I know? I'm just 19."

[/ QUOTE ]
Wrong. And right.

doing stupid things is an important part of life, but i don't think playing poker in a +ev fashion qualifies, at least not on its own.

as stupid as the legal gambling age is, it is 18 and thus a moot point for now.

I believe this is the first time that the absurd amount of security was taken out of the DC coffers though

[/ QUOTE ]

Well, I'm not defending Bush or Clinton, as I don't like either of them. I think it's ridiculous DC should have to foot the bill, but they are paying it out of Homeland Security funds that were given to them by the federal government.

Either way, I have a hard time caring. I live in DC, and the residents of this city deserve whatever they get. If you--not once, but twice!--elect someone to public office who was caught on camera smoking crack with a whore, then you deserve whatever you get.

Can't wait to get out of here.

Oh, and an added question: Which casinos have you buy your chips at the table?

borg lets you rebuy at the table, whether or not your first can be there depends on the dealer.

Even if a bad dealer lets you get away with it, it's rude to buy in at the table. It's incredibly rude to buy in at the table in time games.

I didn't yell at him, I pointed out that he gave bad advice.

Besides, you haven't earned the right to respond to my posts yet. Go join the army.

most people asking this question don't play time games, i imagine. also, in most time games i've been in, anyone who looks remotely fishy will be allowed to buy from the excess in people's stacks, not slowing the game at all.

My understanding is it is an AC Casino Control Commission rule that players have to buy chips at the window in order that the game is not slowed down. (The Sands I played in once I think it is customary to buy at the table). If there is a long line at the window some floor people let the dealer do it. Not only does it slow down the game when you are buying, it slows down the game when they have to refill the table with chips (and there are no chiprunners in AC poker rooms).
