JT makes the nut straight, but not necessarily the nuts. The nut straight is not the nut hand with a pair on the board, nor with three to a flush on the board.

Default Re: a slightly different question...

i am certainly not saying you should fold QTs...i was just posting a possible line of thinking.

i would fold QTo in this spot about 99% of the time...and i would raise/call with QTs in this spot about 95%/5% of the time. i just don't fully understand how on a scale of 0 to 10 QTo is a zero in this spot, but QTs is a 7 or an 8.

Wow, I can't believe how vehement people are about not playing QTo on the button after 6 limpers. I would play this without even thinking twice. I may even play J9o here. People talked about being able to outplay your opponents. For fu*k's sake, there are 6 limpers ahead of you out of a total possible 7 players (you are 8, 9 and 10 are the blinds). If 6 out of 7 people limp on any hand, you sure as hell better be able to outplay them. I gaurentee you at least 2 of them have awful awful hands that I would never play.

The value of QTo is generally when playing against 1 or 2 opponents. You want to hit a pair. With 3 - 4 opponents, the value of QTo goes way down. Then, with 5 or more opponents, the value goes back up. This is true with many hands, namely small to medium pocket pairs. Once there's this many opponents, you are looking to flop a straight draw. If you don't, you better have at least 2 pair to stay in.

I say play it!

sctnt73,

Read the paragraph directly preceding the one you quote. This is what you are missing.

With all the discussion about how crappy QTo is I decided to take a look at my PT numbers for it. GRanted my database is a bit small right now so I'm sure this is statistically insignificant but I found it interesting anyway.

- I have been dealt QTo 126 times and played it 36 of them.
- Of those times I have made it to the river and lost 4 times.
- Of those 4 times I have had top pair and been outkicked once.
- My EV for QTo is currently .12BB/hand.

Like I said statistically irreleavent and I'm not sure what it even means, but I just thought it was interesting.
