[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] harleys dont wave back. [/ QUOTE ] Harley and other big twin motorcycle riders wave to each other and nobody else. [/ QUOTE ] That's so true... I hate that! [/ QUOTE ] People that don't wave back are usually dicks who are more concerned with their image than actually being a "rider". Cruisers are lame. |

1982 Seca 550. Has a newer engine, with only 5,000 miles. Plus V-Trap 4:1 Exhaust and Unifilter Universal Pod Filters, as well as Cafe Racer bars. Great bike for living in the city. Photo KJS [/ QUOTE ] Nice little cafe racer there, but get yourself a real helmet dude |

Re: Q for bikers
I know I know.
The thing is, most of my experience riding before this bike was in Thailand, where I lived for all of 2003 and most of 2004. There I was sans helmet most of the time. And there is no enforcement of traffic laws, so people are all over the place. And two wheeled vehicles outnumber 4 wheeled ones on the roads. So you develop this style of riding that is aggressive, with crazy lane changes and passes all the time. Consequently your head is constantly snapping back and forth to get quick looks of the area on whichever side you want to merge, turn, pass into. So when I put on a big, full face helmet I feel trapped in it. I don't have any rearview mirrors (I know, I know) either so I still do a lot of looking around. I feel better with less helmet so I can see peripherally better as well as hear if someone is in the lane next to me. And I generally drive in the city, such as my commute in and out of downtown each day. That said, I really don't want to swallow my chin because I did a header in my half-shell helmet. So I really should get a big one. KJS |

Re: Q for bikers
Nice Ride. I really like the SV's. What are the roads like in BC? They suck balls here. The closest twisties to me are in Pennsylvania.

Re: Q for bikers
There are lots of great roads in BC. You just have to be really careful early in the year with all the potholes and various other frost damage.

Re: Q for bikers
I'm in Ottawa so I know more than I care too about frost damaged roads.
Also, don't know if anyone cares (if you ride, you should. Nudge nudge KJS) but here is a hella long report on helmet safety standards, which essentially reports that helmets which are DOT certified are generally safer in "real world" motorcyle crashes than helmets which are SNELL aproved. SNELL helmets generally go for about $50 more than a comparable DOT helmet. In fact I am considering replacing my SNELL aproved helmet with a cheaper DOT helmet based on this article. |
