did anyone actually read the decision?

if say, a student, can't even voluntarily say the pledge, then that is insane. based on what the OP wrote, it sounds not like "it can't be mandated that you must say the pledge" but rather something like "nobody can say a particular series of words, called the pledge of alliegance, aloud in a public school" which is way messed up.

that is totally against freedom of speech. the pledge is nothing like shouting fire in a crowded building

Lots of constitutional rights are null and void when going to school.

name me lots.

there isn't 'lots'... there was a groud breaking case back in the seventies or whenever when it was determined that you do not have the right to privacy. which isn't even an explicit constitutional right, but many judges have claimed that a right to privacy is 'implied' by the constitution.

i am not a constitutional scholar but i don't think i am wrong when i say its insane to not allow people to say this particular series of words if they want to. its no different than reciting a poem

Jimmy Carter appointed judge (dinosaur) makes ruling against the will of the people in California.

Voters pay attention and punish Democrats at the polls.

Everything going according to plan.

This wouldn't be any worse than forcing kids to say the allegiance. Regardless I don't see the problem, especially if it is just a ban on mandated pledges.

Thank God. Nobody in a free democratic country should be made to pledge anything. No child needs mind control.

It sounds like the kind of thing that will go nowhere, though. The country has permanently turned down a road toward the integration of religion and government.

The thread does not seem to be about politics. Maybe the initial post was, but the thread is mostly about how people view their rights.
