You can't buck faith John. Here is a fable from James Thurber that you may enjoy this Friday Night or Saturday, or whenever you get around to reading it.

Fortunately Christians never have to think about your double presupposed argument-without-detail, because they are never introduced to the myths of Mithras, Dionysus, Apollo etc. etc.

Great Fable. Reminds me of the guy who says he has a talking dog. To demonstrate, he asks the dog questions:
Where does an errant tee shot go? Ruff! What does sand paper feel like? Ruff! What's on top of a house? Ruff! Bystander interjects, "He's not talking; he's only barking." So the bystander asks the dog, "Who was the 24th president of the United States?" To which the dog cocks his head and replies, "Coolidge?" |

Fortunately Christians never have to think about your double presupposed argument-without-detail, because they are never introduced to the myths of Mithras, Dionysus, Apollo etc. etc. [/ QUOTE ] Considering the closest of them to Christianity seems to be Mithraism, and that a great deal of details of the mystery religion come after the New Testament was written due to it's popularity in Roman circles (who despised Christianity BTW) it's dubious to put so much stock in the belief that Christianity was influenced by Mithraism. Even if the details of the Roman period correspond to actual practices of the 1st Century BC practices of Mithraism (unclear whether they do or not) it still could be the 'ex-employee' scenario I mentioned previously, as Satan according to the Bible though cast out from heaven has had contact with both God and Man since, and according to the book of Job and Jesus' 40 day fast, been used to test servants of God. Also you mentioned prophecy before, here is one that is yet to be fulfilled, and if so, because of it's impact would undoubtably place Christianity at the head of any other religion: Prophecy? Food for thought. (as is everything though IMHO) Cheers, SDM |
