Phoenix Suns = The New Dallas Mavericks

Common Denominator: league MVP Steve Nash

Number of titles between the two teams: zero

Talk amongst yourselves.

BTW, I don't think any serious basketball fans thought Phoenix had much of a shot in the series.

This is true. I read/watched something recently about this baseball season gravitating more to smallball/pitching, and I like it a lot.

Of course, 1998/2001 were fun years to watch too

People keep saying this, so I guess I need to know where exactly I implied otherwise.

I am merely sick of hearing about the "good ole days" of no defense and 250 point totals.

Ever thought of that?

[/ QUOTE ]

No, I didn't. Not when they are down 3-0 and the first two losses were at home . Getting swept when you had the best freaking record in the NBA is embarassing. Period. I mean, has it *ever* happened??

[/ QUOTE ]

No, but how about when the best-record-owning Seattle Sonics lost in the first round to the Denver Nuggets a few years ago? Easily the biggest upset in NBA history. High-octane offenses win alot of games in the regular season, and get crushed in the playoffs.

Agreed. Part of the reason the mid-range jumper has gone away is PEOPLE DEFEND IT NOW. (That, and the three-point shot... nice segment on that on ESPN a few months ago.) If you ever watch film from the 80's, guards were shooting wide open jumpers. Interestingly, some ex-players talked about how the size of their future contracts hinged on how high their shooting percentage was. Obviously that's no longer the case... and shooting percentages have gone down. Go figure.

Uh, didn't the Sonics that year have Nate McMillan, Gary Payton, and Kendall Gill? That's not "no defense."

That was due to what I affectionately call the "Karl Factor" more than anything. That team played much more D than this Phoenix team, if for no other reason than Gary Payton's presence.

Wasn't talking about defense. Was talking about embarassing and humiliating losses by teams with gaudy records. Stay with me here.

That last sentence sure makes it seem you are dogging on that Seattle team for a lack of D.

yeah seriously, they were leading going into the 4th quarter of both game 1 and 2. With a little experience, (and maybe not getting only 1 day rest compared to spurs 4 or 5) they dont fade in the 4th quarter in both games. Ever thought of that?

[/ QUOTE ]

yeah, as far as i can tell, clark is just bent out of shape about his baby bulls not making it out of the first round
