For the record, please note that I'm still a relative noob when it comes to SH play...so please don't take what I say as gospel...that being said, here is my SH (preflop) theory in a nutshell (or at least what I've learned so far):

Don't go nuts on preflop play...it's not really "that" important. For default, pretend the first four people have folded before the UTG player acts and go from there, raise more than you do in a full game, and consider stealing more liberally especially if you are against blinds who will lay down to a steal raise (realize that in general players are going to defend their blinds more in a SH game because they are EXPECTING you to steal. However, you can use that to your advantage, because when you expand your range of "stealing" hands they have to give you credit for a broader range of holdings and are forced to pay you off with your legitamate hands, meanwhile you have position on them and can gain extra bets/save bets as necessary.)

The money is made post-flop in SH play so try to organize your preflop strategy to put you in the best position to make money after the flop. Sometimes this means doing two completely different things with a given hand depending on 1) Your opponents 2) your position 3) your image 4) the weather. That's why it's difficult to classify starting hands into groups and give default plays because your preflop play is going to become very fluid in regards to the above factors. So rather than worrying about how to play QTs in the CO is worry about what you should CONSIDER when you hold that hand against opponent X who raised in front, or opponent Y who is on the button (right behind you and yet to act), or opponet Z who is in the BB.

Knowing what to consider is more important than knowing what to do. I know that probably sounds insane but it's completely true for SH play. I hope that makes sense, although I fear otherwise.

J
