There just isn't a reason to be flashing the money like that.

That and while I don't want to appear to be a bum I don't want a girl interested in me cause I have money. It's totally not what I want in a girl...

[/ QUOTE ]

One reason is that it works. You're not trying to have a relationship with her. If you're single, sometimes you just want to get some. You're trying to bang her. She isn't getting a dime but she thinks she might. She thinks she's in the running. Who cares what she thinks? You're out the door by morning with another booty call number.

There's a difference between looking for a g/f-relationship and getting some. This is one of the many sick ways women make themselves available to men. By responding to cash or fame positively. Women made the rules in the dating/banging pool.

Yeah, I was looking at it from the purely relationship side, and what you wrote did cross my mind, I just omitted it from my post.

I've been tied down the last 3 years (over 2 relationships) and I think I kinda forget about the other side...Doh.

Same here, no one knows except for college friends. The rest my family still thinks I work at my tech support job. I've earned more in the last 4 days than I do in a month at my old job and I enjoy having my own hours and working in my PJs.

Otherwise I tell my family that I do web stuff (which I do on the side), but poker's my main form of income at the moment.

I met my gf back in college, and she thinks playing poker's fine and dandy. Better than me wasting time playing Counter-Strike or Warcraft 3.

When I first started playing a lot of friends were worried about me because they all knew someone who lost hundreds playing online poker, but I plugged away anyway, did my studying, and am happy with where I am right now.

You are completely full of crap. If you are a winning poker player, you are just running good.

On the rare occasions when I bring this up, generally it arouses intrigue, especially among men and if one of them starts talking about it in a large group situation.

However, every time I bring this up one-on-one with any woman, it elicits the same predictable response.

I think a lot of people with fairly routine, long-established lifestyles feel at least a tiny pang of jealousy sometimes at someone who does things differently and succeeds. Some people have been in lock-step to a career path or some sort of path or another their whole lives and have never really experienced freedom, or lack of concern about what society thinks of them. It might even make them angry that they're "following the rules" and someone else isn't, especially if they don't enjoy their lives much.

It might not be genuine, either. They may not seriously want to do anything but what they're doing -- but that doesn't mean they're not going to react wierdly to you about it.

Then again, there are always those who automatically class a professional gambler as a degenerate of some sort or an addict. It might even be reassuring for some people to think of alternatives to their own lifestyle that way.
