Re: Because Party Poker reported slower growth
[ QUOTE ]

Re: Because Party Poker reported slower growth
Awesome thread. Those fish who continue to play, if they have any brains will educate themselves, find sites like 2+2 and realize that if they can't afford to spend the time to learn the game, they should try betting on Hockey instead. Some would say that not everyone can pick up a book. True enough. But if a fish is gonna spend more that 50 bucks a week from his hard earned pay check, after a while he's gonna expect something in return. So he'll just find another high rush hobby to waste his money on. It's not entertaining (unless your rich) to consistently lose money.
As for kids playing. They are probably the only one's left fueling this thing. And the ones that depend on it for tuition know damn well what they are doing. I give online poker a few more years of abundant fish, until they finally get board of watching 'action poker' on ESPN 5 times a week. The Kid (Former Biggest Fish World Champion) |

Re: Why will online poker dry up?
It's not that complicated.
The rate of new players signing up is gradually decreasing. Most of them will lose and eventually quit at some point. The few who do become good players join the several thousand 8-tablers. New players will continue to sign up (at a decreasing rate). Most of them will lose and eventually quit. The few who do become good players will start playing multiple tables. Repeat cycle, over and over. Get the picture? |

I see no reason that skilled poker players can't keep making money for the same reasons slot machines keep making money. |

Slots don't call you an idiot when you win a hand, slots aren't surly, bad tempered or pre-pubescent, slots to the best of my knowledge never say lol when you hit the jackpot.

[/ QUOTE ] Yes there is, because you're not accounting for the percentage of players who become proficient and play 4 to 12 tables. Granted, it's not a large percentage, but when you add them over time to the already thousands of good players who are playing multiple tables, together with a continuing trend of declining new player sign-ups, you end up with mostly good players playing against each other. |

Re: Why will online poker dry up?
Because it is somewhat of a fad now due to the television coverage which is largely fueled by the large prize money and the card cam. Eventually, many people will just lose interest to some degree.

Mack [/ QUOTE ] This is true. It only takes one good berating to get most mum and dad type players consulting a hand chart and drying up forever. Or a few beratings to curtail their poker playing entirely. A lot of people don't mind losing money if they win occassionally, and have some fun. The real fish aren't problem gamblers, they're far outweighed by millions of others who don't give a [censored] about poker, but have money, jobs and a life and will happily enjoy gambling it up occassionally. Casinos spend hundreds of millions on lavish surroundings and pampering rich punters because they understand that people having a good time don't mind losing money. Why the [censored] can't poker players get that through their heads? |
