Thanks for the advice. I was worried about whether to bet on the flop or not but can see the merits in both raising and just calling.

[ QUOTE ]
When you raise the flop, you'll often get more action if somebody else is holding the last Jack. Instead, when you play it this way, you can scare even the case Jack into thinking you've got AA and he'll slow down with his trips. In this hand, the guy didn't even bet his full-house on the river.

Can you explain why you think this? Not criticizing, just trying to learn.

Well, thanks. Frankly, the key to the 2+2 table is playing your cards and the board. Otherwise, it's like writing poetry for a first date: if you get too fancy, you only end up beating yourself.

When you raise the flop, your opponents are much more likely to think you have an Ace rather than a Jack because, if they're thinking at all, they'll think you would slowplay a Jack- just like you did. So, if an opponent has a Jack, he'll give you lots of action thinking he has the best hand.

Sometimes the best way to slowplay a big hand is to play it fast on the flop.

If there is ever a time to slowplay, this is probably it. There are no real draws (except a gutshot) and the bet comes from your immediate right. I think you played this hand fine, and from how the betting went it looks like you probably won the max you were going to. The only way you might have snuck out an extra bet would be if you smoothcalled the turn hoping the case J was out there and ready to spring his trap on the turn (turns out BB had it, but since he didn't raise the river when he filled up, its unlikely he would have check-raised the turn either)

Here I go and like the way this hand played out and then Dynasty has to go and think slowplaying is a mistake. The funny thing is, I was thinking the same thing at first. With the A out there you are much more likely to get called by a bunch of random junk Ax hands and get payed off anyway.
