I actually just got back from a similar trip. If you're thinking about bringing one book, you're seriously underestimating the travel time on these trains unless you're exclusively riding the TGV. I brought TOP, HEP and Poker Essays Vol. I, plus assorted fiction. TOP was the most rewarding, even though it was my 3rd time through it.

Have fun on your trip!

I understand what you're saying, but there are some times when there is nothing to do on the train but read. This is why I'm only taking one book. Also, there are two plane rides involved in the trip so I need something to do then. Furthermore, my main goal is to experience Europe but if there will be time when there is nothing to do.

Also, I'm only asking for one book because I don't want tons of books weighing me down and I also don't mind re-reading books (especially a poker book) to completely digest the info. That's why I'm looking for a book that I can read and re-read.

The food is terrible if you are a terrible traveler and don't know how to find the good food. then again, anyone who thinks the food in Europe (we are talking about an entire continent and about 30 countries) is terrible probably thinks Applebees is the hight of haute cuisine.
