Jeff George had (has?) a strong arm.

Jeff George had a monster arm. So does Vick, FWIW.

Arm stregnth means very little in the NFL. I think only Pennington is a QB limited by arm strength, maybe Dilfer, but the other guys have enough arm to do most everything. There are some guys with huge arms like Vick and Patrick Ramsey, who can't seem to do all that much with them.

This is correct, but it's still a goddamn weird comparison. At least Jeff George learned to use his arm. Maybe Vick will.

i dont know want to argue about vick (people get angry about that). my only point on vick is that if you put him on san fran they would probably go 8 - 8 this yr. i dont think any other qb could win with that team. but if you wanted to win the bowl you would go with mcnabb.
yeah vick's only real strength is his running ability. but its such an amazing strength it trumps his poor throwing. a real good, well coached defense can stop vick if hes not completing passes i agree but he is going to destroy the average nfl defense and he could run for alot more yds than he does if he carried it more.

Vick is just a faster version of Jeff George.

Vick can flick his wrist and toss the ball 70 yards. I've heard stories in local media about him throwing from goal line to goal line.

Shrimp scampi?! Pshhh. He's got a pod of beluga whales in a man-made saltwater lake, and has fresh cavier harvested every morning.

I think strong arm and deep ball aren't necessarily the same thing. Could Billy Wagner throw a baseball farther than anyone else?

While George was average when it came to mobility, maybe slightly above when it came to accuracy, he could put that 15-yard out on a rope far more quickly than most QBs, including Vick.

Agreed. I think Brady is probably a good example of someone who throws a great deep ball but doesn't wow you with arm strength overall.

(Vick can throw the rope too, though. Really, he has a cannon.)

Did you watch him in week 1? Couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with a football.

Sample size.

Sample size is a concern when talking about statistics, not scouting.

It was a metaphor for "he had a bad game."

Yeah, in fact, that was one of his biggest problems early on, is that he threw balls too hard for the receivers to catch them. Now, I'm not going to say he's a perfect passer now, or anything close, but at least he's got that part dialed down a little.
