Raising middle pair is like a religion with me now.

Betting/raising midpair is VERY board and player dependent.

I typically don't play or bet these types of flops with multiple callers in the pot. You have second pair, no hope for a flush or straight. I'd be content to just check down and fold to the first bet.

The risk of putting bets in the pot vs. the possible reward just isn't enough to make me want to fight these types of pots.

I am willing to accept that my agression has gotten a little out of hand. I spent so long struggling with being passive. I overshot the mark and need to pay more attention. Raising middle pair is like a religion with me now.

On the river, as soon as I called I said "Stupid."

Well, middle pair <> middle pair.
A middle pair of queens is much stronger than you pair of eights. Even if you are ahead, you hand is very vulnerable with eights, and on this drawheavy board even more.
