F__k those guys who would fold preflop. UTG had exactly what I put
him on, and played it exactly how I thought he would. Why not go
heads up with a guy I'm basically 50/50 with, when I know I can
outplay him postflop. I made a great read and a great 3-bet. He
called unprofitably and beat me. Oh well, that's poker. Weak
tighties.

[/ QUOTE ]

so you made a great read, did you call or raise?

Help a newbie out...when UTG raised preflop, and you decided to 3-bet, what did you put him on?

I am guessing a big ace. 3-betting gets it HU, which is a much better place to be with a small pair.

ugh. It is not more of a joke than the one I am replying to. What is the point of your post? If you want to show everyone that you are an arrogant prick, rest easy, as you have done that already.

It wasn't directed at you. Judging by how standard of a decision it seemed to me and DB_Hollywood's respone which seemed really confrontational I thought you were just making fun of him.

This is a situation I've been tinkering with.

First of all, I'd just like to point out that there is virtually no difference between having 22 or 77 in this situation (assuming the BB folds) equity wise. It could be a little easier to play 77 postflop but not a lot easier

Any pocket pair lower than eights has 40% equity against a standard UTG raising range.

So if you're folding 33 but raising 77 you are probably making a mistake somewhere.

That being said, I still fold here from the SB because I find that BB calls way too often. I'm not sure if this is a mistake or not. From the BB I'd raise though.

At a table riddled with passive idiots I don't see how three betting out of the SB to an UTG raise can seem like a good idea. If the table is as you describe the range of hands for UTG includes AA, KK, QQ, and AK and maybe JJ and AQ - do we agree? And now that hte flop has come K high we're going to value bet our 33 so he can call down with his overpair?
Both you and the actual player seem pretty passionate about the play on this hand, but I don't see much to like. What am I missing?

shouldn't you be 3-betting from the sb to get the bb to fold?
