If it's directed at someone, definitely penalize them. Otherwise, this rule is so f*cking grade-school...

Re: Isn\'t this \"F-Bomb\" stuff getting carried away?
If during the main-event, heads up. 1 million - 2 million blinds. Somebody has a 40 million to 20 million chip lead and the 20 million guy swears and ESPN covers the the 10 minute sit-out. Somebody is going to get fired over the F-Bomb Rule if that situation ever plays out. I think the, "There's no such thing as bad publicity" rule finally gets broken! |

Re: Isn\'t this \"F-Bomb\" stuff getting carried away?
In other sports, athletes get fined for using the language.
Tiger Woods shanks one into the trees, slams his club and lets fly with an F-bomb? He gets fined by the PGA. Andy Roddick double-faults and curses, the umpire can dock him a point in the next game. Dale Jr. almost gets caught up in a wreck at Daytona, then tells his crew chief via radio that Tony Stewart is a (obscenity) and NASCAR will fine him and possibly take away Nextel Cup points. NFL, MLB and even NBA have the advantage of crowd noise covering up expletives uttered by players. Basically, if people are going to try and position poker as a legit sport on TV, they'll have to deal with conforming to how other sports handle similiar incidents. |

I think there's a difference between Live Golf, Tennis, and Nascar interviews vs tape-delayed poker that can easily edit out any F-bombs. |

It is played by adults. If a guy hits a three outer on you and you let out an audible fu(k, who really cares? If you are offended by that, you probably need to get out of the casino and find something else to do. |

Re: Isn\'t this \"F-Bomb\" stuff getting carried away?
Those other examples are played by adults as well. And, frankly, I'd be much more likely to curse if someobody almost wrecked me at 190 mph than if somebody hit a miracle on the river.
But this isn't anything about me or you or the players in question. This is about marketing. The environment surrounding the game is being sanitized so it won't offend potential viewers and, more importantly, advertisers. As long as poker is the hot fad, things like this will continue happen. If you're unable to contain your mouth at the table, then you'd best hope the poker boom ends quickly and ESPN finds another niche sport to promote. |

Tiger will take some heat from the media when he swears (the '00 US Open at Pebble Beach had a great live feed of him laying off some f bombs after hooking one into the water on 18) and he took some heat in the press but no fine or penalty was issued. This is besides the point that fining Tiger Woods is pretty much meaningless as a penalty. Sitting out 10 minutes in a major tourney final table is the equivalent of suspending a player for a playoff game in one of the big 3 leagues for using profanity. It's insane. |
