Re: Weirdly played rebuy hand
Yeah, the problem with raising is that any worse hand that worse hands will only call a tiny raise (if any), but better hands will push over the top and make you blow another 4.5k or make a very weak looking fold.
Basically raising wins little or nothing when youre ahead, and loses it all when youre behind. I would consider minraising and folding to a push but that just stamps PUSHOVER on your image. Not quite worth the risks here for like 1500 more chips. Kings |

Re: Weirdly played rebuy hand
I think I'm raising this one to 3K because I have been calling these down a lot and feeling really stupid when he shows AJ and costs me a couple of thousand.
It's thin but hey, you have a full house. |

Re: Weirdly played rebuy hand
I think Villain has a medium A, or he missed a turn check-raise with trip queens.
I *want* to raise here, as Hero is usually good, but the problem is in what to raise. You won't get much out of an A. You can double up against QK or QT. Everything that beats you (AQ, QJ, JJ, AA) will push to your re-raise... So, with most raises, you win the least when you have him dominated, and lose it all when he has you beat. Call for the information. |

Re: Weirdly played rebuy hand
My thinking on the river was this.
1. He check/called the flop. That could mean anything. 2. He checked the turn. If he had a huge hand, why would he check here, unless he's trying to get in a check raise. 3. I think someone who had a full house would be more here, although this could be a value bet. But he sure has not played the hand confidently IMHO. Results: I raised to 3k, and he called with AJ and MHIG. Nick p.s. Went on to finish 4th. Wheee. |

I think you got lucky here. There aren't too many hands that are going to pay you off here. A check-call after a preflop raise on a scary board usually means a big hand. He had a reasonably big hand here but he got unlucky (and he played it badly). I think against better players, you will rarely get paid off with a raise. Since you said you had no read here, I think a call makes the most sense. |
