EV wise I think this 54s is not good enough to steal in this spot. I'd want high cards, or atleast 87s to make this play.

Actually, I'd be more inclined to try stealing WITH the poster. He posted in the CO. It's folded to him... and he checks. That's not the sign of a player who likes his hand. I want that dead money.

These situations usually go:

Hero raises, everyone folds;
Hero raises, 1 or 2 calls. Some cards are dealt for the flop. Checked to Hero who bets and both fold.
Sure, it doesn't work all the time, but these little pots really add up.

I figure if we are posting in the CO and raising with ATC if it's folded around to you, isn't this a pretty similar situation?

When you raise after posting you're risking half as much. Of course there's not as much in the pot when you steal, but you're also less likely to get called.

It's like trying to steal against two BB's. There's a better chance that one of them makes a hand against you and plays back. The extra BB that is posted isn't worth the tradeoff IMO.

45s just isn't good enough for stealing anyway unless you have a read on the blinds as very passive.

This is when you don't try to steal.
