so you never bet or raise with a hand that probably isnt the best? [/ QUOTE ] No, but it's a very good starting point, especially heads up with position. Exactly why should it be your normal play to put in a seriously -EV raise against an unknown SB? This could be a fine play against some weak players but most opponents are not that weak. Against a loose player you are just throwing your chips away. Actually many players will call you down *because* you raised preflop. The pot is bigger and they expect you to bluff heads up after you raise. |

Exactly why should it be your normal play to put in a seriously -EV raise against an unknown SB? [/ QUOTE ] I find it hard to believe that this raise is seriously -EV. In fact, against an unknown, I would have a hard time believing this raise is anything but +EV, and not only for this one hand, but for our future hands against this opponent as well. Nigel |

Re: BB question, heads-up with limping SB
I'm not sure raising with any hand after a SB limp is -EV. These situations are admittedly heavily opponent-dependent, but if there's any place to start tossing around extra chips, it's heads up in position.

Re: BB question, heads-up with limping SB
I've played a ton of hands at 5/10, and if a player is bluffing that king, they will continue to do so on the river a high percentage of the time. As for folding a 6 outer, its not really a big concern considering he'd be getting 5:1 to call a raise and a 6 outer is a 6.8:1 dog...especially since he's likely to bet the river if he misses, sort of like making him a 7.8:1 dog. He'd have to make up 2-3 BB on the river if he hits. Plus its not likely he's bluffing with a hand that has 6 outs considering he didn't raise preflop. I think you should definitely call this dowN.
