What hands is he going to fold that beat you? If he has not folded A or 9 yet, he ain't folding. I think checking the river is fine. |

And only an idiot would call down a pre-flop raiser with 7s with an A on the board. |

Personally, I don't like it even though you won.
1. On a loose table I would limp pre-flop. 2. With 4 opponents, I'd estimate the probability that someone had an A at 75% (maybe even higher considering this is a loose table and lots of people play A rag). Remember, anyone that see the flop is not playing a random hand and many playable hands have an A in them. I'd estimate the probability that someone had A or 9 at close to 85%. I'd check the flop and see "if and where" a bet comes from. If it comes from one of the early players, I'd fold. If it comes from the last player, I might raise to clean everyone else out and see what happens from there. If it gets checked through, I bet the turn if it's a safe card. If not, I'd fold. I don't see a pair of 8s as a particularly good hand here. |
