One thing I would not worry about is government raids of ISPs.

1. Can't differentiate between play money and real money without data from the host site.
2. Would require permission from foreign country that is receiving major tax revenue from poker sites in order to seize records.
3. Can't determine who is making worthwhile money.
4. Would require cooperation between the FBI and IRS for any meaningful arrests/fines.

Not enough resources or concern to effectively pull this off.

If anyone goes after online gambling it will be the government for tax and financial reasons, not the religious right for moral reasons.

There is a lot of money that the government isn't getting their hands on and they don't like that. Even though the servers are in different countries the gov will still do everything they can to get a piece of the pie.

Sometimes I'm not sure I see a distinction anymore. One side feeds the other.

That is completely untrue. Every casino in the U.S. has slot clubs with win/loss data. I don't see the government getting their hands on this "piece of the pie". I would bet less than 1% of these slot players claim wins/losses on taxes unless they are issued a 1099.

It'll probably stay legal in Canada.

I mean, we can steal satellite tv from the USA for free legally!

If you for one moment think that liberal democrats won't jump on an anti-gambling bandwagon, you're severely intellectually challenged.

Since online poker is operated outside the US, the US government has precisely zero jurisdiction.

The anaolgy to Napster is way off. Napster was theft, pure and simple. If you wantr free music, convince musicians not to sign restrictive contracts with record companies.

Unfortunately, most musicians have the business acumen of a snail, and don't understand how to make money without big promoters. If they had brains, they'd study the Grateful Dead business model.
