Ok, funny time
[ QUOTE ] which is why I was considering staying at the Plaza for $14 less a night when I can just drive to the IP, Mirage etc... to play [/ QUOTE ] You might want to buy that extra insurance if you stay downtown, and that will eat up the difference. Actually, Vegas driving is very hectic, a lot of traffic and a lot of crazy things you'll see. It is not like California or New York, different kind of crazy. |

yer friend's probably getting married closer to the strip then downtown....that should help in your decision...
I say BS...if you were raised in the Hamptons and went to school at Yale, then yes, they're dingy. Otherwise, the Imperial Palace was fine. Of course, I grew up in a wood heated house... I wasn't no senator's son. RB |

OK, You just changed the whole thing around and changed the rules by including other people, girlfriends and a wedding!
I have never had a rental car in Vegas so I may not have the best answer for you. BUT, now you STILL have to decide between Downtown and the strip and have to please your girlfriend and others as well. I think the first consideration is where this wedding is taking place and where everyone else wants to stay as well. Downtown and the strip are two totally different worlds. The strip is MUCH more spread out since the resorts and hotels are WAY bigger than downtown. But that does not mean it is hard to get around if you can stand to walk a little bit and there is always the monorail which runs pretty much the whole length of the strip. The strip is also the newer glitzy, "what you see on TV, CSI" Vegas. Downtown is much more "Old School" vegas. Hotels are all much closer together, it is easier to find lower limit blackjack games and such and there is the light show and all that. Don't get me wrong, I actually like downtown and still want to stay there at some time but for the most part I prefer to stay on the strip and then visit downtown as part of the the trip activities. If you have a rental I would think that is even easier to do since you do not have expensive cab fares to worry about. As far as the IP being dingy goes: If you want high end, high class, pretty foo foo kind of stuff then go somewhere like Bellagio and pay way too much for a room. If you want a place with a GREAT location, clean, reasonable priced rooms and right in the middle of all the midstrip action, poker and otherwise, then go to the IP! But really the first decision has to be between downtown and the strip! |

Stay at the Imperial Palace on the Strip. Downtown sucks [/ QUOTE ] Place is cheap and great. Not like you're spending much time in the room anyway. Central location and the staff is really cool. Poker room pays great comps BTW. |

This is incredibly obvious. Stay at the Imperial Palace. It's mid-strip, they pay $3/hr. to play in their card room, and you can eat burgers and steak sandwiches from Tequila Joe's for about $5 a meal. And if you want something a little healthier, you can head next door to O'Shea's to eat at their Subway.
You also have much easier access to the poker rooms at Bellagio and the Mirage. If you stay at the Plaza, I can virtually guarantee that you will regret your decision. The Bear |
