i dont know about folding the 8s preflop with position. out of position, i think this is a fold. but not when he's got the advantage

[/ QUOTE ]

Since you have position, you should 3-bet to isolate so your eights will hold up more often. Depending if the people behind you cold call 2-3 bets often or not. If you have loose players behind you I think calling is better, but if you can isolate with a 3-bet why not?

Fold preflop. Otherwise, nice hand.

[/ QUOTE ]

Why not isolate with a 3-bet?

[/ QUOTE ]

because the raiser is in EP, that demands at least some form of respect.

i like the line given here

[/ QUOTE ]

I think 8s are ahead enough from an unknown EP raiser. I'm 3-betting if it gets head up.

Maybe I'm wrong but I'm tempted to think this is a reraise or fold situation preflop. If no one else has cold called I want this HU. It really sucks if one or two people call behind you.

Yeah I think the 3-bet iso might have been a good idea. The thing is that I didn't know the raiser, so I could have been in huge trouble.

jason_t, you're cut off. Recommending folding here is terrible advice.

ehh, 3-betting preflop is one way to go. isolation w/ a pair of eights is good and you get to see if he wants to cap.

it looks like he's got overs so you don't want to give him any free cards and if he just check/called with an overpair then he saved you some bets anyway.

I think I agree. In retrospect I should have raised.

The rest of the hand is good though, what would you have done with a flop or turn raise?

What if you were on the button does that give calling more merit. Plus when you cc and then raise on a favorable flop won't this usually clear out those behind you if they missed making more dead money not to mention adding set value.
