I'd cap the flop, your hand might still be best and you've got a lot of people calling along.

One thing wrong with your statement:

In this hand, I'm either ahead or drawing to 2 outs. If I'm drawing to 2 outs, the extra people in the hand aren't helping me.

That being said, there's a lot to be said for pushing the flop and not doing so...

push:
-getting a's and k's to fold is a good thing (removes 6 outs)
-getting bottom pair or middle pair to fold is a good thing (give me a chance to counterfeit someone who flopped the other two pair)
-if someone caps the flop, it's a cheaper read than someone raising the turn. We can start to call down sooner

wait:
-I'm only going to be giving these people 10:1 pot odds. They're going to call with a lot of hands, correctly.
-If I wait til the turn, I can give them odds as low as 6:1... when their equity will be greatly reduced...
-a lot of hands will cap the flop, but fewwer hands will raise the turn.

----------

I'm still not sure which is the best approach, but your point about folding the a's and k's is sweet.
