Re: newbie BM tips
yeah, don't be an "obvious internet idiot" while at the B&M. Act like you are a REAL PERSON, NOT A TYPICAL INTERNET PLAYER.
TIP the friggin' dealers already. #1 sign of an internet A-hole is a moron who doesn't tip but obviously has some grasp of strategy (whatever that's worth). Protect your cards. Typical "internet" players have no clue what this means. Don't friggin MIN RAISE every time (another hallmark of the internet idiot, too lazy to use the slider bar so they just push raise). Take the damn chips out of the rack and don't count them out one at a friggin' time already. Don't be a JERK like many internet players! In live games, courtesy and just being a generally nice person COUNT. You are no longer anonymous and sitting in your underwear watching TILT and swooning how realistic and fantastic of a show it is. Act in turn and quickly. Skip the mirrored glasses in the friggin' 2-4 game. Skip the dramatic "call for time" whilst contemplating whether Q3s is worth playing for a raise 2nd under the gun. Push your friggin' chips and cards OUT WHERE THE DEALER CAN REACH THEM ALREADY. Many live game players can't seem to realize that a 5'1" dealer can't reach the FAR end of a huge hold'em table. After being asked "push em in" about a zillion times, they usually STILL don't get it. al |

Re: newbie BM tips
- Memorize your cards (1st glance) don't look back, especially if two or three of a suit hits. This is usually a tell that you have 1 card of that suit (unless you are an actor lol).
- announce your play (raise, call) don't act with your chips as it may have unintended consequences. - Don't drink - unless you drink when you play online... - Buy-in for a good amount (usually a full rack of the predominant color in the game) so you play the cards, and not your stack. You don't want to keep buying in for small amounts... |

Re: newbie BM tips
two racks is far better in a 3chip/6chip or 4chip/8chip structure. 1 is fine for a 2/4.

Lol, nice post. I have never plyed at a BM but just wondering - what happens if you dont tip the dealer? It's not a rule is it? [/ QUOTE ] No, it's not a rule. But if you don't, nearly everyone present will think you're a cheap a-hole, the atmosphere of the table will be noticably chilly, and the service you get may be affected. Dealers depend on tips for the majority of their income; that may not be the ideal situation, but it's the reality. A good dealer is worth much more than minimum wage, but that's all the casino will pay him/her. If I don't tip, it's because the dealer gave very poor service and I feel a need to quietly make a statement (that hasn't happened to me yet, but I do reserve that right), or because it was a microscopic pot (and I'll kick in a little extra if it's a huge one, to make up for those). -Mike |

Re: newbie BM tips
thanks for all the tips, unfortunately i didn't get to read them before my trip to commerce on friday night. some things i learned while i was there.
- put your name on different lists for the different tables so that you can start playing. me and my big bro signed up for the $200 max NL, while my girlfriend put her name down for the $100 max NL and she sat down and was playing for an hour even before we sat down. we ended up sitting at a $100max when they opened up a new table. we were next on the list for $200 but nobody was leaving. -don't bring someone who doesn't play at the casino. we ended up leaving an hour or so after we sat down b/c my bro's wife wanted to leave. this was right after i got busted with AJo vs. someone's ATo. I was in late and opend for $10, folded to sb who reraised to $20. I had about 40 left and put it all in and he called and hit a ten. oh well. we knew we shouldn't have brought her, but we went directly to commerce after dinner as it was already getting late. -it's funny how us men think that women can't play poker. i do this myself when a female sits down. she just has to prove me otherwise. i have been teaching my gf how to play good tight poker and have been teaching her about drawing with the correct odds. her big hand that she won was with AQ spades, don't remember her position. She pre-flopped raised with this hand and by this time people had begun to call her raises because they had been folding previously to her raises (she had QQ and some other good starting hands.) Flop missed her but there were two spades. She put a bet out (continuation and semi-bluff), 4 callers. 4th street was a blank. I think here she called someone that raised, knowing she had pot/implied odds to draw at that flush. At this point she had about $25 left and the dealer was curious why she just didn't go all in, which she realized that she probably could have done. Either way it was probably going in there somhow. She prayed for that fifth spade which hit and when everyone bet she called, turning over her cards and said "Nut Flush boys." They were shocked that she knew the term "nut flush" which I think is funny b/c how does she not know since poker has become so popular. She took down that $275 pot and busted about 3 guys. mwahahaha.... since my big bro was up he gave me $100 and we all went home with some money. |
