Re: QQ UTG: How the hell do you play this?
Back to the subject at hand, I think Carze has posted some very good thoughts with two clear examples. I sympathise with you here, and similarly have trouble with QQ EP. In the second hand, I think your thought were sound the whole time, you just didnt go with your read and lost. The key in that hand was that you knew your opponent well enough to know he must be betting the $350 on the turn for value, a read not enjoyed in many lower limit games. The firsthand I think is fine too, and if the 3c had been the turn card, you can lead out for the pot and get him off the flush draw (if thats what he had) and probably fold to a push. Well, maybe folding to a push isnt that easy since the action so far has been a little strange (minibet by the PFR and you leading strong into a blank on the turn). So youve gotta go with your read I suppose.

Re: QQ UTG: How the hell do you play this?
Raising to 4x bb in this position doesn't necessarily mean weakness, but I think it's a weak play with KK, particularly online. In a live game, maybe different story.
The reason I think it's bad is because it doesnt charge late position players a high price to enter the pot, and therefore doesnt isolate the limper and doesnt get a lot of money in preflop (which is what you want to do w/ high pairs). He was in relatively early position (5 to act behind him) and could have found himself in a 5-6 way pot, out of position against up to 3 players. It's almost a pot building raise (if CO+1 and CO call, I call on button w/ hands as bad as 65 offsuit). If you can make a case for why its a good raise or telegraphs strength I'm all ears. |

Re: QQ UTG: How the hell do you play this?
it seems to me that you decide how much to raise prefloo depending on the strenght of your hand, rather than the size of the pot. This is often a bad idea.

playing QQ the way you've described above will have you out on the streets pan-handling in no time. [/ QUOTE ] not being confrontational, just wondering which of Craze9's ways of playing QQ in EP will have him go broke, and how you would play differently. |

Re: QQ UTG: How the hell do you play this?
Can you explain why?
I feel that the points I made about getting money in preflop with high pairs and buying position and not giving extremely good implied odds are valid reasons. |

He was replying to Loci's brilliant strategy of "raise and hope no one has AA or KK."

Re: QQ UTG: How the hell do you play this?
Also I should say that I don't decide how much to raise based purely on the strength of my hand. I decide based on what I want to accomplish with my raise.
Big raise w/ KK mp. Small Raise with 77 as CO w/ 3 limpers. Huge raise w/ 97off on button w/ 6 limpers. For example. |
