Hehe...I host that chart image at my website (I took it down originally because I no longer agreed with it, but people were yelling at me so I put it back up for the sake of maintaining the thread).

Personally, I still follow those guidelines fairly closely for the early positions but I've opened a considerable amount from the CO and even more on the button. I feel the suggestions would be good for someone who's new to the game because you'll end up having the best hand most of the time and be able to avoid a lot of tricky situations, but once you get the hang of it you'll see where and when (and hopefully WHY) you should be opening with a a much broader range of hands in the later positions. (I'm still no expert, but that part is pretty easy to understand once you get some expereince under your belt.)

Anyways, I just wanted to reiterate what the original thread has said as well as what I've learned on my own...the chart is a "decent" place to start, but realize you're going to have to loosen up in the later positions once you get the hang of things.

I was trying to understand your chart and wasnt too sure I really did. Are these the hands that you rasie with or call with. They look like hands that you rasie with. I was looking at trying to make a chart that showed calling/betting and raising by postion. I am new at short handed play but find it helpfull to have a visual. When I was compling info for various posts and sources I tenatively put a few charts together to help me get started. In essence what is suggested was play any pair, any ace, suited connectors down to 4,3 and unsuited connectors 8,7 and above. Does that make sense to you?

The chart in my original post is for open raising...I tend to be of the school of thought that it is a mistake to open limp in a SH game. I'd even take that a little further and say that I try to avoid limping behind other limpers preflop (but I will do so occasionally). I've found that a lot of SH play revolves around taking/having the initiative and that generally starts with a preflop raise.

Then again, I'm no expert (yet [img]/images/graemlins/smirk.gif[/img] ) so feel free to disagree or try other things and see what works for you.

One more question for Jason..... Does that mean those are the only hands you play, throwing all the others away? generally speaking. So you fold to all other hands and when you come in you raise?
