I dunno...probably not yet. My anecdotal evidence?

My campus bookstore now has a section for poker books.

And Brookstone at the mall now sells (overpriced) poker chip sets.

tv poker, just like every fad has to fade sooner or later. Sooner or later the masses will get tired of it because there is just so much poker on tv. Over exposure will kill tv poker.

Poker itself will survive. Because of the poker boom there will be a healthy number of poker players at tournaments big and small all over the world, even after tv poker dies.

How can you say it is fading? It is 12:22 am ET Friday morning. There are 45,702 people online at Party, on 6681 tables. It is always like this. Poker is fine.

I have already seen signs of it fading, but I think there are 3 things on the horizon that will have a much greater impact, especially with the younger fans. This is 3 video games which are set to be released in the near future: Halo 2, World of Warcraft, and Everquest 2. These are not casual games. They require a huge investment in time to play and are highly addictive. I think it will have a direct impact on the number of active players and poker TV viewership. Once poker TV loses it's audience, it will trickle down to the casinos/online poker sites. It sucks, but it was bound to happen sooner or later. Is pool the next fad?

Poker is forever IMO. Sure it wont always be as popular as it is now, but the ratio of fish to good players will remain close to the same.

Poker has something that other gambling games dont have. A sense of control. People flock to games like this because they think they have an edge. Black Jack is another great example as well, and it will not die either. Most poker players that think they know how to play, don't. This is money in the bank.

Online poker may evolve and perhaps even go sour someday, but live play will be there in your lifetime.

My 'Poker In a Box' cross-post from NVG forum:

Not sure if someone has posted about this because I've been traveling.
Thought it was kind of interesting and another indication of poker's popularity (and the continuation thereof).

Driving down from Memphis to New Orleans we stopped at a truck-stop somewhere in Middle-of-nowhere, Mississippi on I-55.
Prominently on display near the cash-register at the front (near the bee's honey pills that are supposed to give you energy) was a Poker-Homegame type thing that was packaged like a regular type board-game.

For $21 you get a little poker-table cover (fake felt or something maybe) as well as instructions on how to play "Real Las Vegas Style Poker" (or something like that) "INCLUDING TEXAS HOLD-EM"
Looked like it also included cards and chips as one would assume.

I couldn't help but laugh....it looked so cheesy. "Just Like Las Vegas!!"

I asked the cashier about it and she said they had just got them within the past couple days and she had already sold a couple of them.

Poker-in-a-box at your local truck-stop.
The big "fad" continues.

I don't think it is, more and more television is appearing every season. A lot of these WPT loving fools just get on for a few hours after the showing, lose their money, go to bed happy and get up the next day to go earn some more for a few of us. Expect that trend to continue as long as it is profitable for the networks. Once again Madison Avenue is controlling our destinies.

Didn't you read my story? There should have been 45,703 people at Party. Don't laugh this off, it's the beginning of the end...
