the size of your flop bet is what got you in trouble...you showed weakness with that bet, and now you don't know if he's making a move on you or if he has something. That's not a board you want to give a cheap price to anyway....that bet was horrible. Lead for near pot next time...then if that gets raised you have a slightly easier decision because your information is better.

I mix it up depending on a lot of things: on a loose aggressive table that views flop overbets as weak--I'll overbet strong hands.
At a passive table that calls a lot if they hit any part of the flop and fold if they miss, I'm usually 1/2 to 2/3rds. It also matters if the pot is hu or multiway. HU I'm typically at 1/2 to 2/3rds. Also flop texture matters but in my experience oesd; fd; and better draws are not folding the flop to any bet but an all in. Of course AJ and Aces are recommending a psb to ensure that a lag isn't interpreting a smaller bet as a weak cb. They surely are right for certain players but not for all. A # of times players have written in chat--I knew he was bluffing 'cause he potted the flop. In any case, your table-image, how you are running, other players at the table, flop texture, etc. all can play a role in how much you decide to bet. In my experience at 50NL, folks folded to any cb on an a or k high flop unless they had an ace or king or were a calling station who hit some part of the flop. Check raises and reraises were rare: a few would do it with a draw; bad players would do it with any top pair; some would do it when they had tp beat. |

I don't think the bet horrible hu on an ace high flop (but it seems that most, if not all disagree); I ain't folding out any draw with a near psb and I wanted a call--which I got, LOL.
THANKS for yet again pointing out that villain may have interpreted the bet as a weak cb. |
