For the Bay101 Tourny you can stay at my place in Palo Alto. 30 minute drive and very safe. comes with spare bedroom and high speed internet access.

There's a place called Sierra Suites about a 5 minute walk from Bay 101. It's one of those extended stay hotels for businessmen with a kitchen in every room. I've never stayed there, but it looks nice and brand new from the outside. The link has photos and all the info. The area around it is fairly safe.

Be sure to play a $500 freeze out in your hotel room.

But take your shirt off first before asking your opponent to play the freeze out.

For Bay101, there is a Staybridge Suites (part of the Intercontinental Hotels/Holiday Inn group) about a 2 minute walk from the cardroom. Rates are probably around $100-120/night. There is nothing else of interest in the immediate area.

For an upscale hotel, something like the Fairmont in downtown San Jose would be about a 10-15 minute cab ride from Bay101 and run about twice as much. Downtown SJ isn't the most happening place in the world, but at least there are some restaurants, etc. in walking distance. The Hilton Santa Clara is fairly new and supposed to be fairly nice, also about the same distance and price as the Fairmont, but there's not much else in the immediate area (other than my office!).
