Janeane Garafolo, BTW, is not funny. Wouldn't be funny if she were a man either, but then I wouldn't feel as bad about wanting to punch her in the face.

i'll bite on this one. my theory is that it's because men are programmed protectors. in many (most?) forms, humor is a matter of expressing that something that might appear to be a problem is infact not a problem. think about it for a minute. it does seem to serve as notification for all around you. you know, somebody trips and you laugh, now it's known that it's not serious. laughter is the opposite of serious, it makes people feel at ease. it explains why women are attracted to funny men too, it makes them feel comfortable and safe, which is a primary need.

I liked her a little when she first started out, but now she just seems to be too full of herself to be likeable. I agree with the posters that mentioned Tina Fey and Gilda Radner. They're definitely comedians who are equally funny to both sexes. Mostly because their humour extends beyond simply making fun of the opposite sex. I find Samantha Bee really funny for the same reason. |
