Re: What to Major in for the next five years.
if you can't beat the games you listed after playing them for a year, you should seriously re-evaluate your plans to be a poker pro. i'm not saying it can't happen, but come on be serious.

Re: What to Major in for the next five years.
If you're just looking for pocket cash and the feeling of being a winner, I hear the Omaha games are insanely soft, since people just don't understand the rules.
If you want to make real money, then you would want to play NL, full ring games if you're tight, 6-max if you like to raise a lot. If you're not sure you're a winning player and just want to have fun, then multi-table tourneys give you the most play and the least risk. (You'll rarely win, but your hourly loss will be miniscule if you pick low entry-fee tournaments.) |

Re: What to Major in for the next five years.
stud hi/lo is supposed to have the least variance... as you start focusing on any1 form of poker you might want to also keep up with other forms, play a different game once every other week or so (at least). profitable games will come in all forms.

Re: What to Major in for the next five years.
[ QUOTE ]
Why does this mean you are one of the top 2-10%?? [/ QUOTE ] Say I was for example in the top 7% of all online players and there was say 17,897 players in total then 7/100 x 17,897 = 1252.79 players would be better than me and 16644.21 players would be worse. Although you would need to divide one unlucky player into 79 hundreths to make this work. [ QUOTE ] If you consider breaking even "great", how are you gonna make a livinng at this? [/ QUOTE ] I'm break even now but by this time next year (at worst) I hope to move on to being a winning player. In five years time when I retire (early) from my full time job, I hope to be one of the best, hope at least, dunno if I will be. |

[ QUOTE ]
The ability to tilt less may very well be the single most important factor in determining whether you will be a long term winner. [/ QUOTE ] Yeah, I've heard a lot of horror stories about otherwise good players losing their whole bankrole due to tilt. |

Re: What to Major in for the next five years.
I promised the trouble I'd demonstrate to her quite clearly that it would be easily possible to make a modest living playing online poker before I actually quit my job.
If the worst comes to the worst I can always go and work at B&Q or Sainsbury's Homebase at minimum wage. |

Re: What to Major in for the next five years.
Thanks for the vote of confidence.
During this year I've studied several forms of poker and more than pleased to be break even (at least) at them all. If I don't start winning bucket loads of dosh in the next year I'll really be surprised. You clearly have more of a natural talent for poker than me. |

play a different game once every other week or so (at least). [/ QUOTE ] Yeah, that's very true, I wouldn't want to be too much of a specialist. I've really found knowledge of any one form of poker helps all the others. |
